1. General information
The main goal of this subject is to provide students with the tools to reach a level of oral and written proficiency in French corresponding to level A2 of the CEFR.
General objectives
1. To provide simple tools to interact in French.
2. To become familiar with the lexicon of everyday reality.
3. To initiate basic structures for greeting, introducing oneself, describing people, places, situations.
4. To improve skills and abilities using the French language in an everyday context.

2. Learning results
The student, in order to pass this subject, must demonstrate the following results...
- Basic instrumental command of French as a second language, corresponding to level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- Ability to communicate in French at a basic level.
- Ability to understand simple oral and written texts in French.
- Ability to synthesize and exchange basic information in French in oral and written form.
3. Syllabus
The contents of units 7-12 of the Nouveau Rond-Point 1 manual will be followed (cf. recommended bibliography): Basic grammar: verb tenses: imperfect, passé composé, future, imperative, conditional, present subjunctive.
Temporal indicators. Duration. Demonstrative adjectives and pronouns. Interrogation with lequel. Personal pronouns COD-COI. -Y pronouns. Comparison. Ordinal numerals. Relatives qui, que, où and dont. Make suggestions, express disagreement, give arguments, make judgments about someone or something.
Vocabulary: description of people. Shopping, restaurants and reservations. Meteorology. Ask and show the way. Give orders, advice, prohibit and express what you want.
Phonetics: basic discrimination phonemes
4. Academic activities
The subject has 6 ECTS, 150 hours of work: 2.4 face-to-face credits for directed classroom work and attendance to tutorials and seminars; 3.6 credits for supervised and autonomous activities and the assessment process.
The program will include:
- Theoretical and practical classes on the contents of the program
- Practical activities:
a) Oral and written exercises to practice theoretical concepts.
b) Comprehension and written and oral expression activities -interaction will be encouraged- of simple texts of everyday life.

5. Assessment system
First call
Global assessment test according to the date of the official academic calendar.
It consists of five parts, each worth 20%:
1) Test on grammatical, lexical and discursive contents.
Open questions, multiple-choice questions, fill-in-the-blank questions, etc. may be asked.
2) Listening comprehension test.
3) Written comprehension test.
4) Written expression test.
5) Oral test consisting of a monologue and an interaction.
It can be about a reading book or the topics of the program.
